CGTC Titans Win First Conference Title in Program History

Titans win 2018 GCAA Region XVII Championship

Rome, GA – With a 74-52 victory over South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Region XVII Division I Men's Basketball Championship on Saturday, the Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) Titans earned their first conference title in program history.

With the hot hand from long range, the Titans started the game with four three-point baskets.

Taking a commanding 14-5 lead early in the first half, the Titans exerted their dominance over SGTC and never looked back.

The Titans were led by outstanding play from freshman forward Anyeuri Castillo and sophomore guards Eli Farrakhan and Mike Laster. Castillo led all scorers with 22 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and one steal. Farrakhan added 15 points off 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. Laster contributed five points, eight rebounds, nine assists, and one steal.

At the conclusion of the tournament, both Castillo and Farrakhan were selected to the 2018 GCAA All-Tournament Team, with Castillo also being recognized as the GCAA Tournament Most Valuable Player.

As the winner of the GCAA Region XVII Championship, the Titans have earned a spot in the 2018 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Men's Basketball Championship in Hutchinson, Kansas March 19-24. The Titans await tournament seeding which will take place on Monday, March 12 at 12:30 p.m., via livestream on the NJCAA Selection Show on www.njcaatv.com.
