Macon, GA – The CGTC Lady Titans (1-7, 1-6) suffered a 66-54 conference loss to East Georgia State College (8-4, 5-3) on Tuesday.
Coming off a two-week layoff from competition, the Lady Titans showed no signs of rust early as they started the game on an 8-1 run.
Sophomores Hayleigh Ross and Tamira Anderson knocked down 3-point baskets to set the tone for the team's offense in the first half.
The Lady Titans took a 31-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The game's momentum shifted in the third quarter as East Georgia State went on a 10-4 run to start the period. Unable to gain their offensive bearings, the Lady Titans were outscored 23-11 in the third quarter.
Turnovers and subpar shooting proved costly for the Lady Titans for much of the game. The team shot 16-of-62 (25.8%) from the field and 5-of-24 (20.8%) from 3-point range.
A bright spot in the team's loss was the balanced play of guard Hayleigh Ross. Showing up on both ends of the court, Ross scored a team-high 15 points with six rebounds (five defensive), one assist, five steals, and one block.
Sophomore guard Avanna Preston also tallied double-figures with 10 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
The Lady Titans' next game is Thursday, March 4 at East Georgia State College in Swainsboro. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
