Macon, GA – The Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) Athletics Department announced the hiring of Gerald Fitch as the men's basketball assistant coach on Monday.

"I am excited to add Gerald to our staff. He is a perfect fit," said Reco Dawson, CGTC men's basketball head coach. "His experience and mentorship will help create a solid foundation with our athletes. Our players have tremendous respect for him and there is no question he will do great."

Fitch, a Macon native, was a high school basketball standout at Westside High School. After high school, Fitch attended the University of Kentucky where he had a successful collegiate career under the leadership of legendary basketball coach, Tubby Smith.

During his time at Kentucky, Fitch was a four-year letter winner and starter. He appeared in 127 games for the Wildcats and scored 1,391 career-points, which ranks 24th best in Kentucky scoring history. Fitch made 199 three-pointers in his career, fourth best in program history. He also ranks in the top-three of rebounding guards in Kentucky history.

During his senior season, Fitch led the Wildcats in scoring, averaging 16.2 points per game. His 79 made three-point baskets notched the 12th-best mark in single-season history at Kentucky.

After leaving Kentucky, Fitch played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 2005-2006. That season, he helped the Miami Heat on their quest to win the 2006 NBA championship prior to being traded to close the season with the Houston Rockets.

Fitch played professional basketball overseas from 2006-2019 with 21 teams in 21 countries. He assisted in four championships and two runner-up championship games.

Having a heart for giving back, Fitch often speaks at various churches, schools, and non-profit organizations throughout different countries to speak to the youth about the importance of discipline in being a student-athlete and overcoming obstacles.

Fitch also works with K.O.K.O.S., Keeping Our Kids Off the Streets, a non-profit organization whose mission is to mentor and develop children in need.

"I'm thankful and excited for the opportunity to expand my coaching career at Central Georgia Technical College," said Fitch. "Macon is where I'm from and where I want to be. I'm looking forward to working with and learning from Coach Dawson."

Fitch graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. In 2021, he received his Master's degree in Higher Education and Leadership from Mercer University.

As a two-year graduate assistant under Coach Greg Gary at Mercer, Fitch assisted with the on-court monitoring and development of players, scouting future student-athletes, and provided on- and off-the-court mentorship to players.
